Files would not open after a pen drive transfer – recovered
The problem
While he was transferring files from his pen drive, the data was lost and the files would no longer open.
The result
The lost files were recovered.
“I lost my data during transfer files from the pen drive. And I couldn't able to open my files. But with the help of Dataexpert. I got my lost files.”
What happens when a transfer is interrupted
Pulling out a pen drive, or a power cut, in the middle of a copy can leave the file system half-written. The result is files that show 0 KB, will not open, or a drive that asks to be formatted. In most of these cases the file contents are still on the chip; only the index pointing to them is damaged.
Repeated recovery attempts and saving new files to the same pen drive can overwrite the very data you want back.
If this happens to you
- Don't save anything new to the pen drive.
- Don't format it or run 'repair' when Windows offers.
- Always use 'Eject' before removing a pen drive.

Frequently asked questions
Why won't my files open after the copy stopped?
The copy was cut off while the file system was being written. The contents are usually still there; the index is damaged.
Should I try recovery software?
Once, carefully, saving to a different drive, is fine for simple cases. If it doesn't work, stop and get it checked.
Is there a charge if nothing is recovered?
No. Diagnosis is free and if no data is recovered you pay no recovery charge.
Every recovery depends on the condition of the device. This case describes one customer's result in their own words; your diagnosis tells you what is possible for yours.
