Why SSD problems need quick, careful handling
SSDs fail differently from hard disks. A firmware or controller fault can make an SSD vanish from the BIOS, show the wrong capacity, or lock into a read-only state. File-system corruption can make Windows fail to boot even though the SSD itself still works.
Two things make SSDs urgent: TRIM can permanently erase deleted blocks soon after files are deleted, and some faults get worse each time the drive is powered on. Many office laptops also use BitLocker, so the recovery key is needed to read the data.
