Pen drive failed suddenly – photos and documents recovered

Customer
Ashwini K.
Device
USB pen drive with photos and documents

The problem

The pen drive failed without warning, with important photos and documents on it.

The customer first tried to recover the files on their own, without success, and then brought it to us.

The result

All of the lost data was recovered, photos and documents in good condition, and the customer was kept informed throughout.

The pen drive itself was also left in working condition afterwards.

“To my relief, they completely recovered all my lost data without any hassle! From photos to documents, everything was restored in perfect condition.”

What usually goes wrong in a pen drive

A pen drive has no moving parts: a small controller chip manages one or more NAND flash memory chips. When it 'suddenly fails' the cause is usually a corrupted file system (Windows asks to format it), a controller or firmware fault (it shows 0 bytes or is not detected), or physical damage to the connector.

File-system damage can often be repaired logically. Controller faults need the data to be read from the memory chip in the lab. Free recovery software only helps in the first case, and repeated attempts on a failing drive can make things worse.

If this happens to you

  • Do not format the pen drive when Windows asks you to.
  • Stop running recovery software again and again.
  • Do not bend or re-solder the connector yourself.
  • Keep the drive safe and get a free diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions

My pen drive asks to be formatted. Is the data gone?

Usually not. The format prompt means the file system is damaged, and the files are normally still on the chip. Do not format it; get it checked.

My pen drive is not detected at all. Can data be recovered?

Often yes. When the controller fails, the data can still be read from the memory chip in the lab. Diagnosis is free.

How long does pen drive recovery take?

Logical problems often take 1–2 days. Chip-level recovery takes longer. You get the time estimate with the quote.

Every recovery depends on the condition of the device. This case describes one customer's result in their own words; your diagnosis tells you what is possible for yours.
