A writer's lifetime literary work – 100% recovered
The problem
The customer had lost access to his lifetime literary works: writing that simply could not be recreated.
He had almost lost hope.
The result
After sustained effort in the lab, 100% of the data was recovered.
“I had almost lost hopes of recovering my lifetime literary works… sustained efforts were finally successful in recovering 100% data.”
Why some recoveries take patience
Some drives can be read in one pass. Others are weak: they read slowly, stop responding, or have many bad sectors. Recovering them safely means reading the good areas first, then going back for the difficult ones in careful passes, so that the drive is not pushed until it fails completely.
For irreplaceable work such as a book, thesis or research, the goal is every last file. That takes patience rather than speed.
If this happens to you
- Stop using the drive as soon as files go missing or it becomes slow.
- Don't run disk-repair tools like CHKDSK on a failing drive; they can make it worse.
- Tell the lab which documents are most important.
- Keep a backup in two places from now on (see the 3-2-1 rule).

Frequently asked questions
Can documents be recovered when the drive is very weak?
Often yes, with careful, slow imaging in the lab. Running the drive at home is what usually destroys the last chance.
Should I run CHKDSK?
Not on a failing drive. CHKDSK changes the file system and stresses the drive. Get a diagnosis first.
How do I avoid this in future?
Keep three copies of important work, on two different kinds of storage, with one copy away from home or in the cloud.
Every recovery depends on the condition of the device. This case describes one customer's result in their own words; your diagnosis tells you what is possible for yours.
