When your business application stops opening
A database failure can stop access to invoices, inventory, customer records or ERP reports even when the computer still starts. The first question is whether the files are readable and the database is damaged, or whether the disk itself has failed. These require different recovery steps.
Contact DataExpert at Kalewadi Phata, Pune with the exact error, SQL Server version, approximate database size and when it last worked. We assess the available recovery route and explain what can be attempted before quoting.
Problems to include in your enquiry
- SQL Server reports SUSPECT or RECOVERY_PENDING after a crash or interrupted restart.
- An MDF database cannot be attached, or a backup fails during restore.
- Queries fail because database pages or individual tables are damaged.
- A database was on a hard disk, SSD or RAID volume that is no longer readable.
- The latest backup is missing or incomplete, and older backups or transaction logs are available.
Some errors come from permissions, disk space or a missing file rather than corruption. Diagnosis should establish the cause before repair.
Database recovery and disk recovery are different
If the source drive has read errors or physical damage, preserving its readable contents comes first. A recovered MDF file may still contain corrupt pages; getting a file back does not automatically mean that the application will open it.
With readable files, an assessment can compare usable backups, logs and database contents. A tested backup restore may be preferable to repair. Where repair is feasible, it can still leave missing records or damaged objects; the result needs business verification.
What to preserve before assessment
Keep the original database files, all related backups and logs, the error message and a record of any repair already attempted. Arrange a separate copy or image through your IT administrator; avoid writing recovered data onto the affected storage.
Do not run destructive repair on the only copy, overwrite the database with a trial restore, reinstall the server or repeatedly retry a failing disk. If the application is still writing to affected storage, ask your administrator to stop further writes safely.
From assessment to a verified result
- Describe the failure. Share the error, files, backup history and business records that matter most.
- Review recovery options. Storage recovery, backup restoration and database repair are considered according to the fault.
- Approve the scope. Get a quote and expected deliverables before recovery work starts.
- Verify the recovered data. Your application administrator checks essential tables, recent transactions and sample reports before handover.
Recovery of database contents and returning an ERP application to production are separate deliverables. Discuss both if you need application testing or configuration.
Serving Pune and PCMC businesses
Our lab is at BRT Road, Gurudatta Housing Society, Kaspate Wasti Road, Kalewadi Phata, Rahatani, Pune 411017. Businesses in Wakad, Hinjewadi, Baner, Bhosari, Chakan and nearby areas can contact us to discuss the case and arrange drive pickup when physical storage is involved.
Send the error message first. Do not send database files, customer records or passwords in an initial WhatsApp message; agree a suitable transfer method after assessment.
Technical references
Microsoft explains why a database can enter SUSPECT state and why tested backups and restore procedures matter. These references describe SQL Server behavior; they do not guarantee recovery for an individual case.
Frequently asked questions
Can a SUSPECT SQL Server database be recovered?
Sometimes. Recovery depends on the underlying fault, readable database pages and available backups or logs. SUSPECT alone does not establish how much data is recoverable.
Do I need the MDF, NDF and LDF files?
Keep all available database and transaction-log files, backups and error logs. Share the SQL Server version and explain which files are missing. Do not delete files to make the database attach.
Is this the same as recovering a Tally folder?
No. Recovering files from a failed drive and repairing a corrupt database are separate tasks. If your case concerns Tally, tell us the product version and error so the assessment can identify the right approach.
How much does SQL database recovery cost?
The quote follows assessment and depends on database size, corruption, storage condition and the requested result. Recovery work begins after approval; any application configuration work is scoped separately.
Can you recover an encrypted database without its keys?
Encryption can prevent recovery. Preserve the required certificates, private keys and passwords, and discuss their availability during assessment. We do not promise to bypass encryption.
